Goodbye, Lady Bird
Today marks the passing of one of Texas’ most beloved women. Lady Bird Johnson left us today and we are deeply saddened. I don’t normally report non real-estate news, but this is worthy of our time.
Anyone who has ever driven through Texas and marveled at the endless bluebonnets and wildflowers, you have Lady Bird to thank for that. Her endless commitment to the environment, even before it was “popular” has made Texas the most beautiful land in our nation. For those non-Texans, you would think her husband would be the more famous, but Lady Bird left the bigger legacy behind.
When you visit Austin, head over to her pet project- the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center across from Zilker park… most Austinites have had their portrait taken there at one point! She co-founded the National Wildflower Research Center and assisted in opening the LBJ Library on the UT Campus. Lady Bird was one of the biggest UT fans, being a historically important contributor to the football and basketball programs- you could even see her in attendance over the decades.
God Bless, Lady Bird- you will be missed!

As an avid gardener and a former owner of a landscaping business, I have always been appreciative of Lady Bird’s efforts on behalf of our country’s natural beauty and resources.

I bet that the dog in King of The Hill is named after her. (The dog’s name is Lady Bird”

You got it! If you haven’t known a Texan, you haven’t known anyone who is hyper loyal to their state (or country, as some of us see it).

The one thing I miss the most about the Great State of Texas is the Bluebonnets and Indian Paints on the roadsides.
Well, that and the people, and the BBQ, and the Austin music scene and UT football, and hating OU, and Port Aransas, and HEB, and Bluebell ice cream, and Shiner Bock beer, and the Houston Oilers (RIP), and the River Walk in San Antonio, and THE original Six Flags, and seeing the Lone Star waiving in the wind, and the UT Tower lit up in burnt orange, and getting pulled over by a real live Texas Ranger.
And now Lady Bird. She was a class act.

So you’ll be retiring here, right?
What good will come out of her passing is coverage meaning more focus on her legacy which will reinvigorate the wildflower AND nature preserve movement!
